New York City, it has been and still is the prime destination of immigrants, both foreign and domestic, thus it is the city with the highest number of inhabitants in all of the United States. In the last few years, there has been a phenomenon of increase of population that decides to stay, rather than to leave. Many of the old residents, as well as young families, are choosing the city over the suburbs. The private market accompanies the appeal to live in New York City and it’s not always able to respond to the needs of all New Yorkers. Therefore, the city itself is presented with the problem of lack of quality affordable homes. Big Ideas for Small Lots is an excellent initiative not only as solution for the high demand of affordable homes, but also as a response to the urban consolidation. For us, it’s an opportunity to find inventive ways to make the most of the available space.
